Cathy is almost a native Californian. Her father was in the military and moved the family to San Jose when Cathy was a mere 9 months old.
She graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Public Relations and has been self-employed for the past 15 years designing, developing and delivering leadership training classes to large corporations and coaching individuals.
Cathy had her first clay experience at San Ramon Adult School. She started hand building, but kept eying the wheel in the corner. She was almost ready to forget about clay when she was told she could try the wheel. The rest - as they say - is history. She was hooked. Cathy had found her passion. She discovered Walnut Creek Civic Arts about five years ago and jumped in with both feet when she took on the job of CAG treasurer, which she has held for the past two years. And, she is our Saturday afternoon monitor.
Cathy strives for perfection in her functional work. Her work represents what she wants it to and is working to get that perfect combination of design and glaze without clutter. She is currently taking Roger Yee's throwing class and her current goal is create a deeper foot on her pieces.
Cathy has "never been and never will" be married. She does, however, have little ones around the house - Tessa and Tucker. They are one-year-old twins and sound like they are a handful. Tessa is the brains of the pair. She has taught herself how to flush the toilet (no, she doesn't know how to use it yet). She also has a knack for opening doors (too bad for the alarm company). So if you are visiting Cathy, please remember to lock the bathroom door. I didn't forget Tucker. He likes to cannonball from a ten-foot ledge in the bedroom onto Cathy's bed at 4:00 am - not good for someone who is NOT a morning person.
Oh, did I mention Tessa and Tucker are her treasured cats! |
